Aijiang Liu

PAINTER

Based in Guangzhou, China, b.1997

Aijiang Liu explores individual consciousness, emotional experience, and existential perception through tempera-based figurative painting. Rooted in a deep engagement with traditional painting materials and techniques, his practice develops a personal visual language that exists outside both academic realism and contemporary trend-driven aesthetics. Through layered tempera surfaces, restrained compositions, and symbolic figuration, Liu constructs psychologically charged images that evoke solitude, suppression, and quiet resistance.

His work often employs metaphorical figures and controlled visual structures to examine the tension between inner emotional intensity and external restraint. Fascinated by the unique optical qualities of tempera—its muted luminosity, silk-like texture, and material presence—Liu approaches painting as both a sensory and philosophical process. For him, painting becomes a means of transforming personal experience into symbolic form, where the act of image-making functions as an ongoing negotiation between self-awareness, memory, and the surrounding world.
