Weibo Xu

PAINTER

Based in Guangzhou, b.1987

Weibo Xu’s artistic practice centers on the motif of “fire” as both a visual and emotional symbol that permeates his work. Fire functions not only as a dynamic image within his compositions but also as a critical narrative and affective thread guiding the viewer’s experience.

Technically, Xu weaves together traditional and contemporary methods. He integrates classical painting language, experimental use of modern materials, and artisanal techniques such as gold leaf inlay and foil-burning, alongside elements of traditional Chinese ink painting. This synthesis of diverse techniques reflects his pursuit of mastery—a state akin to the Chinese concept of “炉火纯青”—while generating layered textures and vibrant visual tension.
