Boxuan Cen

PHOTOGRAPHER

Based in Guangdong, China, b.1998

Boxuan Cen explores photography as a philosophical medium—one that has shifted from representing external truths to articulating internal subjectivities. Tracing the evolution of the photographic image from modernist documentation to postmodern fragmentation, Cen situates his practice within this critical trajectory.

His work reflects a nuanced inquiry into the psychological and existential conditions of contemporary life. Through images of anonymous figures reminiscent of Giacometti’s sculptural solitude, or symbolic animals such as lingering mice and watchful crows, Cen constructs visual metaphors for alienation, memory, and the unknowability of the future.

These photographs do not simply depict—they contemplate: offering meditative frames that mirror both individual crisis and collective uncertainty.
