Peng Yulong's artistic practice is rooted in the traditional foundation of Chinese calligraphy, while exploring the modern possibilities of this ancient art form through a contemporary lens. He graduated with a Bachelor's degree from the Department of Chinese Painting at the Central Academy of Fine Arts and later earned a Master of Fine Arts degree from Hubei Academy of Fine Arts, specializing in the theory and practice of calligraphy and seal carving.

  • The core of his creation lies in the "contemporary attributes of calligraphy," emphasizing the modernity of structure, brushstroke form, and writing materials, with a particular focus on the contemporary expression of structure. Drawing from Zhao Mengfu’s concept of "character formation passing with time," Peng Yulong constructs his calligraphy by "building character forms with seal techniques." He establishes a layered, progressive visual structure between individual characters and larger compositions, blending the sense of order in traditional calligraphy with contemporary aesthetic language.
